went on this trip with my boyfriend, my mom, and my step-mom! my step-mom, sarah, actually went to university in san francisco and lived there for a while otherwise, so she knew the area quite well and showed us around :-).
we also did a quick drive up to santa cruz to see the boardwalk, but it was mostly closed lol. we did also go to the surroundings of stanford and silicon valley while there, and it was crazy to eat somewhere so clearly populated with rich tech-bro assholes. a little nauseating tbh.
OH another nauseating thing: self-driving cars have a CRAZY presence in san francisco! i didn't know this before i went there, but it makes perfect sense when i think about it. i hated seeing them with their little antenna boxes and shit. made me very nervous. old man yells at cloud etc etc
the hotel we stayed at was also super nice bc it's the hotel my mom's work set her up in for a business trip she had there a week before. it had a beautiful lobby, two cafes, and two restaurants! it was also right downtown so it felt like we were close to a lot of things.
here is a list of some of my favorite things:
- THE SEA LIONS!!! i was mesmerized by them! we watched them a looot at the pier
- the penny arcade at the pier with all the super old arcade an entertainment machines, some from the 1800s!
- the science museum we went to for an after hours party night thing, which had very cool architecture, fun exhibits (including an evolution one i argued with my mom over @_@), and a nice selection of vendors.
- japantown! knocks seattle's japantown out of the park. so many cool stores and food places. we went into a store that sold anime dvds + figures and my step-mom got so annoyed at the objectification of the anime girls that she had to leave lol
- the thrift shop we stopped at; i'm pretty sure the actual store is a chain, but the clothes there we sooo cool, including a limited edition batman windbreaker that i got!! i bought an in-n-out burger shirt as well for jokes, but somehow lost it when traveling back :( i was so upset. never did find a san francisco themed shirt tho so i went on mercari after and bought one lmao
it was just a really fun time. we were only there for 4ish days (including travel days), so we'd definitely only scratched the surface and focused on the touristy things, but i found them to be very enjoyable! next time i'm going to walk the golden gate bridge--that's the only thing i'm truly sad we didn't do!
great city, wish there were less tech bros. but i could say the same about seattle and i live there, so it's a wash.
